When we divide the appropriate shapes into two equal parts, we can get two different shapes that are similar to each other. So we get symmetry.
We can achieve symmetry over many different shapes. Symmetry is like a mirror. For example, when we look in the mirror, we see ourselves. That is, it looks the same both in and out of the mirror. This is how we get symmetry.
Symmetrical Shapes
When we divide a shape into two equal parts, if there are the same shapes on the right and left, then we get symmetrical parts. That is, when we draw a line through the middle of any object, if both sides are similar, we call it symmetry.
Let’s draw a heart in our notebook. Then draw a line to divide this heart in half. Now, the shapes on both the right side and the left side look similar. When we cut and fold the heart from the marked place, it will be the same. So the shapes overlap. Thus, we get two equal parts that complement each other.
Not every shape can be separated symmetrically. On the other hand, we may have the chance to achieve more than one symmetry in some shapes. When we draw a line through the middle of a shape, shapes with more than one symmetry on both sides may emerge.
You can consider many different shapes in your home and see if there will be symmetry. At the same time, you can draw some shapes in your notebook or create symmetry from the shape you find. For example, our face is also symmetrical. When we draw a line right in the middle of our face, we see that the right and left sides of our face are similar.
