G2-Sentences

English Grammar, Simple Sentences Worksheet #4

When making a sentence in English, first the subject, then the verb, and finally the object, identifier, place, and time structure is applied.

SUBJECT (S) + VERB (V) + OBJECT (O) + INDICATOR (I) + PLACE (P) + TIME (T)

We ask

WHAT, WHO to find the SUBJECT

WHAT, WHOM to find the OBJECT

HOW to find the INDICATOR

WHERE to find the PLACE

WHEN  to find the TIME

EXAMPLES

  • I go to school every day. (S + V + P + T)
  • My mom is watching a movie.  (S + V + O)
  • I cross the road carefully. (S + V + O + I)

⇒ The following examples belong to imperative sentences. In imperative sentences, there is no “subject” since the action is done directly to the person opposite. The sentence starts directly with the verb. Therefore, there is no “S” in our main formula. The formula is V + O.

  • Close the door. (V + O)
  • Water this flower once a week.  (V + O + T)
  • Don’t touch my bottle with your dirty hands. (V + O + I)

⇒To form a question sentence we use the question words, auxiliary, subject, main verb.

  • What do you eat for your lunch? (QW + A + S + V + I)
  • How does he cook this soup? (QW + A + S + O)
  • Are you in the park? (V + S + P)
